Chronic Disease Management

Questions to Ask About Chronic Disease Reversal Therapy

Chronic disease reversal therapy is becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. It is a natural response to the increased frequency of chronic diseases that are cutting many lives short and straining the health care system. The most common chronic disease are metabolic syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. All three diseases are often caused by the patient's lifestyle.

How chronic disease reversal therapy works

People with pre-chronic issues like pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity can reverse these issues by making the appropriate lifestyle changes. These changes take a lot of individual willpower to reverse their conditions. Patients have to eat better, exercise more often and find healthy ways to relax and destress.

Can technology make it easier?

Absolutely, mobile technology makes it easier to make healthy life changes. It can be extremely helpful when it comes to tracking vital data like changes in weight, blood pressure, exercise patterns and sugar levels.

Being able to track these things is important, given the fact almost 30 million people in the U.S. live with diabetes. The disease can also lead to other health issues like amputations, blindness and kidney failure, and it can be fatal if the patient fails to get their blood sugar levels to sustainable levels. Dealing with diabetes early makes it easier to control it.

According to a 2008 study done by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease, people with pre-diabetes can prevent, or at least delay, the onset of Type 2 diabetes by eating healthier and exercising more often.

The participants of the study reduced their odds of developing diabetes by up to 71 percent. That was a significantly better outcome compared to a control group with pre-diabetes who were given medication to help deal with the disease. Those people only reduced their odds by 31 percent.

The study also showed that improved nutrition and exercised lowered the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.

The study makes it clear that chronic disease reversal is an efficient way to lower a patient's odds of developing chronic issues.

Will changing your lifestyle change your life?

Without a doubt, it is one of the most effective ways to deal with chronic issues. Making those changes has become easier not just because of technology that allows patients to network with others dealing with the same disease, workplace clinics have also become more popular nowadays. These opportunities make it easier for patients to summon up the willpower to make the necessary changes.

For example, patients can now get helpful information from the CDC on smartphone apps on what changes they need to make and the best ways to go about it.

Workplace clinics help patients deal with many of the challenges people face due to living a sedentary lifestyle, and they can offer personalized plans for each person. Most people are not willing to visit their doctor for information about improving their lifestyle, since they view it as a hassle.

If you are dealing with a condition that can lead to a chronic disease, the best time to start making changes is now.
